For some reason, I like old books.  I like the look, the feel, the smell.  Like this book of Psalms and Hymns which is signed “William Nickerson, 1867”.  Perhaps it is because the tattered covers, the dog-eared pages, the failing binding all tells a story. There is only one way to obtain that which is weathered and aged as such….time.  I guess, too, that is why I find weather beaten wood, or rusted farm equipment so intriguing.  I want to ask each one “what was life like when you were a child?”.  Not everything that is good is new.

In some bizarre way, the front door of this abandoned house, reminds me of a face.  Perhaps one that once said “Welcome.”

I often find myself fascinated with the character of run down and abandoned buildings. I suppose that, despite the neglect of their upkeep, each one has a story to tell, a youth that once carried vibrancy and purpose.  Now, it holds the memories…a monument that reminds us all that the past existed and we are connected along a continuum to those who have gone before us.

How is that for poetic ponderings.

I don’t know…maybe I ought to make “Weathered Buildings” my theme for the week. What do you think?

This building actually is in use as a Masonic Lodge, I think.  At least that is the case according to the logo tattooed to the other side of the edifice.
